I’m a true romantic at heart, and It fills me with so much joy to know that I get to work with so many amazing couples like you.
Choosing where to take your engagement photos can feel like a surprisingly big decision, especially in a city with as many beautiful options as Savannah. But when I’m helping couples choose between Savannah engagement session locations, I’m not just thinking about which spot is the prettiest. I’m thinking about you two. Are you more dressed-up and classic? A little nostalgic and drawn to anything vintage? Would you rather be barefoot near the water or wandering through the trees? Your location can completely change the feeling of your photos, and choosing somewhere that matches your personalities is one of the easiest ways to make your session feel more like you.

If you’re picturing something timeless, polished, and a little more dressed up, downtown Savannah is such a good place to start. Between the historic architecture, quiet squares, cobblestone streets, and those little corners that somehow always feel like Savannah, there’s so much variety without having to go very far.
This is one of my favorite Savannah engagement session locations for couples who want that classic city feeling while still keeping their photos relaxed. You can dress things up a little, wander instead of staying in one spot, and let the city become part of the session without it taking over. It feels elegant, but never has to feel overly formal.

For couples who love something with a little more character, the Georgia State Railroad Museum and River Street both bring in that older, textured side of Savannah. Think brick, industrial details, historic surroundings, and a mood that feels completely different from the greenery Savannah is usually known for.
These locations are especially fun if your style already leans vintage or you want your engagement photos to feel a little less traditional. River Street gives us room to wander and mix those historic city textures with the energy of being near the water, while the Railroad Museum can create a more distinct, nostalgic feeling. Your outfits can play into it as much or as little as you want, you don’t have to turn the whole thing into a theme for the location to add something special.

If you feel most like yourselves outside, somewhere green and unhurried might make the most sense. Forsyth Park is a Savannah classic for a reason. There’s plenty of room to walk around, move, laugh, sit together for a while, and just let the session unfold without feeling like we have to constantly chase the next backdrop.
The Savannah Botanical Gardens can give you that same outdoor feeling with even more greenery and garden surroundings. These kinds of locations work especially well if you want something soft and romantic without making the session feel too dressed up. There’s something about being surrounded by trees and open space that naturally lets everything slow down a little.

And then there are the couples who would rather kick off their shoes, let the wind do whatever it wants, and not worry too much about keeping everything perfect. For you, I’d probably point you toward Tybee Island or one of Savannah’s marshy landscapes.
Tybee gives you space to play, walk along the shoreline, get a little sandy, and turn your engagement session into more of an evening together than a photoshoot. The marsh has a quieter feeling, open skies, tall grasses, warm light, and so much room to simply be together. Both are beautiful choices for couples who want their photos to feel relaxed, a little adventurous, and completely unfussy.

There really isn’t one “best” place to take engagement photos in Savannah. The best location is the one that makes sense for the two of you. Maybe that means dressing up and wandering downtown, bringing a little vintage inspiration to River Street, slowing things down beneath the trees, or running barefoot along Tybee as the sun starts to disappear. Your engagement session doesn’t need to feel like something you have to perform for. It can just be time together in a place that already feels comfortable and exciting to you.
If you’re planning a Savannah engagement session and have no idea which location fits your vibe, tell me a little about the two of you.
